I've read the Bible front to back and preached to more people than I can count. Even so, some mornings the enemy plants doubt and goes straight at my salvation.
Nobody warns you about those mornings.
The enemy doesn't attack for no reason. If you weren't saved, you wouldn't even be questioning.
The dead don't lie awake wondering if they're dead.
Look at the father in Mark 9. His son is sick, he's out of options, and he brings Jesus a faith that's barely standing up.
He doesn't clean it up first. He prays the realest prayer in the whole book. "Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief."
Jesus heals his kid anyway.
Jesus didn't wait for the man's faith to get strong. He moved on the shaky faith the man actually had.
"If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself."
2 Timothy 2:13 (KJV)
Even when we tap out, He doesn't.
The thief on the cross had minutes left and half a sentence of faith, and he still woke up that day in paradise. It never came down to how much theology he had. The whole thing rode on Jesus.
When I first started walking with God, the seasons I felt nothing used to scare me to death. I thought feeling empty meant I was faking the whole thing.
What I learned is that faith was never a feeling I had to work up. It's leaning on Jesus, and He doesn't move when my feelings do.
1. Be honest with God about how you really feel.
Tell Him the exact thing you're scared to admit you don't know anymore. He already knows it's there. Saying it is for you, not for Him.
2. Quit performing a faith you don't feel.
You don't owe people a confident face. Bring God the real thing instead of handing everybody a show.
3. Run to the Word, not your feelings.
Feelings move around like weather. Open the gospel and look at what Jesus actually did. The empty tomb doesn't move.
Lord, I've been faking it.
I smile like I've got it together, and inside I'm not sure I still believe.
I bring You the real thing today, doubt and all.
I believe. Help my unbelief.
Thank You that You hold me even when my grip goes weak.
I'm leaning on You, not on my feelings about You.
Thank You that this never rode on how strong my faith feels.
In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen.
