What If I've Been Faking It This Whole Time?

"If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself."
2 Timothy 2:13 (KJV)

There's a fear a lot of people carry and never say out loud.

Deep down, you're scared you don't actually believe in God.

That you've been going through the motions the whole time, and one day it all comes apart in your hands and everybody finds out there was nothing holding it up.

You sing the songs. You say the prayers. The whole time there's a voice in the back of your head asking if any of it is real for you.

You start grading yourself. You wake up, take the temperature of how much faith you feel that morning, and decide right there whether God's still in or not.

Look at this dad in Mark 9:

The man doesn't put on a show. Through tears he says it straight. "Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief."

Read that again. He said faith and doubt in the same breath, and Jesus healed his boy anyway.

Your faith was never the thing with the power in it. The One you're putting it in is.

Weak faith in a strong Savior still saves you. The gospel doesn't ride on how sure you woke up feeling. It rides on a tomb that stayed empty whether you slept good or not.

Paul knew that tug-of-war, and he wrote something down for the mornings your belief runs thin.

"If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself." (2 Timothy 2:13)

Read it slow. Even when your faith gives out, He doesn't. He can't go back on Himself just because you woke up unsure. Your shaky belief was never the thing holding Him in place.

Salvation isn't something you achieve by feeling certain enough. It's something you receive by trusting the One who already is.

Here's how this lands for you today:

  1. Get off the grading scale.

Doubt showing up doesn't mean you're out. Half the people in the Bible doubted, and God never once let go of them.

  1. Pray the honest prayer.

"Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief." He answered it before, He'll answer it again.

  1. Put your weight down on what Jesus did, not on how convinced you feel today.

The floor holds either way.

PRAYER

Lord, I believe.

Where I don't, where it's shaky and I can't make myself feel sure, help my unbelief.

I'm done grading myself by how strong I wake up feeling.

You held that father through his doubt, and You're holding me through mine.

In Jesus' name. Amen.
