You're tired.
Not the kind of tired that sleep fixes. The kind that comes from trying to prove something that never needed proving.
You read the chapters. You showed up to serve even when you were running on empty. Still you lie down at night with that low hum in your chest that says it wasn't enough, that God is somewhere tapping a clipboard, a little let down you didn't do more.
You ever feel like your whole walk with God is a test you're slowly failing?
Like if you ever stopped doing all the Christian stuff, you'd find out the faith underneath was never really there?
Here's what happened to you without you noticing:
You started believing your faith is only real if it's producing.
You've been out in the yard gluing fruit onto your own branches, exhausting yourself trying to look alive.
Let me take you to a man who had nothing to show:
He's nailed to a cross next to Jesus. He can't get baptized or go to church. He can't pay back a single person he robbed or undo one day of the life he wasted. His hands are pinned and his time is gone. All he's got left is a few breaths and the sentence he says next:
"Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."
That's it. That's the whole resume.
Jesus asks him for nothing. He just says, "To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."
The thief got into paradise with empty hands and a believing heart.
No track record, nothing on paper. Just faith in the right Person at the last possible second.
Let me ask you something honest:
If the dying thief is saved with nothing but faith, what exactly are you trying to add to a bill that's already paid?
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
A gift. Not a paycheck.
God was never grading your output. He's looking at the root, not the branches. He sees the heart that's trusting Him, even on the day that heart can't produce a thing.
Hear me out, because this is the part that sets people free.
Your action was never the proof of your faith. It's the fruit of it.
Fruit grows on its own when the root is alive. You don't grunt and strain a peach into existence. A healthy tree just does what healthy trees do, in season, without a single anxious thought about it. If there's real faith in you, the action comes when it comes. If there's a season you can't produce anything, that doesn't mean the root died. Make sense? The thief proves a root can be fully alive with zero fruit hanging off it yet.
I'm not telling you to go limp and call it faith. Faith does move, eventually, on its own. I'm telling you to stop using your activity as the lie detector for whether God really has you.
Here's how to quit faking the fruit today:
Stop the nightly audit of everything you did and didn't do for God. That ledger was never how He kept score.
Say it plain: a man got into paradise with nothing but faith. If it was enough for him, my empty day is not the disqualifier I think it is.
Sit with Jesus because you want Him, not because you're filling a quota. Connection grows fruit. Pressure just grows burnout.
Jesus, I've been so busy trying to prove I'm Yours that I forgot You already said I am.
I've been gluing fruit onto branches and calling it faith.
Today I stop straining.
You saved a dying thief who had nothing to offer but a believing heart, so I know my worth to You was never my output.
Thank You that it was a gift and not a wage.
Help me trust the root and quit grading the branches.
In Jesus' beautiful name we pray. Amen.
