Some of us don't know how to receive help.
Growing up in the street life taught me to ask what somebody wanted whenever they were kind to me. I've helped people who turned on me the first time I said no, and after enough of that, kindness starts to look suspicious.
Even useful information felt guarded. In the world I came from, people held back whatever gave them an advantage. My pride learned to say, "I'll figure it out on my own."
Israel was at war with a people called Amalek. Moses, the servant God used to lead Israel, stood above the battle, but his arms got tired.
The verse doesn't shame him for that. It tells us exactly what Aaron and Hur did.
They put a stone under Moses so he could sit down. Then each man stood on one side and held up one of his hands until the sun went down.
Moses was still depending on God. Aaron and Hur were part of the help God gave him that day.
I had to learn that relying on God doesn't mean refusing help from people.
That was hard for me because receiving help felt like giving somebody a chance to control me.
Asking a question felt weak. Letting another person carry part of the work made me wonder what they would ask for later.
A friend started showing me another way. He shared information freely and helped without making me feel like I owed him.
Over time, my guard started coming down.
We still need wisdom about who we trust. The Bible isn't telling us to trust every person with every part of our life.
It shows Moses getting tired and two people standing beside him.
Pride and fear can make isolation look wise, even when God is sending help through another person.
The next time a person you trust offers one small kindness, pause before saying no. Ask exactly what they mean.
If the offer is clear and you have no real reason to distrust them, let them help without assuming there is a hidden debt. Keep your trust in God while you let the person help with the need in front of you.
Lord, betrayal taught me to question people before I know their heart.
Thank You for staying my foundation when people have failed me.
Show me where fear and pride keep pushing help away.
Give me wisdom to receive kindness without putting my whole trust in another person.
Today I will let somebody stand beside me without assuming they came to hurt me.
Keep my trust in You as You use people to help me.
In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen.
