Nobody Around Me Believes Any Of This
“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”
Psalm 68:6 (KJV)
God doesn't leave people by themselves.
That's the promise in this verse, and look at who He makes it to. Not the ones with a church home and a group chat. The ones with nobody.
Some might say these devotions are the only spiritual food they get all week. No church. Not one Christian friend. You read this on your phone every morning, and then you've got no one to talk to about it all day.
I know that feeling.
I was in a room with a lot of friends and still felt like not one of them knew me. Being surrounded isn't the same thing as being known, and I learned that years before I ever learned who Jesus was.
God says He setteth the solitary in families.
He doesn't say He visits them. He sets them in a family, and He's the one doing the placing.
Now read the next line, because David put these two things right next to each other on purpose. He bringeth out those which are bound with chains.
To David, a man alone and a man in chains were the same, and God moves on both of them Himself. We're the ones who decided loneliness is the smaller problem.
He wrote your name into a family with no back row and no probation. You were made kin before you ever found one other person around you who believes.
God has done harder things than find you a friend.
He put you in His family the day you believed, and nobody can undo that part. Finding a gospel centered church, and Christians you can actually sit next to, may take longer than that.
Some of you have been asking Him for a church for a long time and hearing nothing back. That quiet isn't Him changing His mind about you.
He is still the God who moves on people who are by themselves. He moved on me when I was one of them, and He is not finished with you.
Here's how to start finding your people today:
1. Seek God before community.
You want someone to text on a Wednesday. You want one person who knows your name and knows what you're walking through. That's okay, but keep going to God first.
2. Look for God's message.
Come to Community Bible Baptist church. It is gospel-centered church. We always God's message and the Messiah first.
3. Go where believers already are, today if you can.
Pick a service, a Bible class, or a small group, and go once. You don't have to commit to anything. Show up and tell one person your name to start.
PRAYER
Lord God, I've been doing this by myself for a long time.
You know exactly how quiet it gets, and You have not left me in it.
Thank You that You set the solitary in families, and that You put me in Yours the day You saved me.
Thank You that You are the one who does the placing, and You already placed me.
Today I'm done waiting to feel ready, and I'm going looking.
Put me in front of one person who loves You.
Make me that person for someone else who is reading this alone right now.
I trust You with the timing.
In Jesus' precious name we pray. Amen.
